The Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology Fellowship at the University of Florida Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine is a comprehensive one-year program that begins annually on July 1.

This one-year program is designed to offer fellows advanced training in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic disorders of bone and soft tissue. Fellows will work closely with members of a multidisciplinary team that includes orthopaedic surgeons, radiologists and radiation and medical oncologists to develop their expertise.

Date of Next Available Position: TBD

Benefits: Commensurate with level of training. Visit the UF Administrative Affairs Housestaff Benefits Webpage for more information.

The program includes extensive hands-on training in the dissection and diagnosis of a large number of bone and soft tissue tumors; the opportunity to evaluate image- and non-image-guided core biopsies; and opportunities to examine a large number of consultation cases. An outstanding immunohistochemistry laboratory and advanced molecular diagnostic and cytogenetic tests are available. Trainees will participate in the daily signing-out of cases and weekly sarcoma conferences. There are ample opportunities included for fellows to participate in both clinical and basic research.

Our fellowship faculty includes three pathologists with fellowship training in bone and soft tissue pathology. We review more than 2,000 specimens per year, including 300 primary bone and soft tissue sarcomas, and we also examine numerous benign neoplasms of bone and soft tissue, as well as a wide variety of non-neoplastic specimens. Emphasis is placed on the correlation of surgical and radiographic findings.

A large number of immunohistochemical antibodies and molecular diagnostic tests are available for the work-up of bone and soft tissue neoplasms.

Fellows are expected to participate in related interdepartmental conferences. Opportunities for and support in research activities are available throughout the program. Lecture series, comprehensive teaching conferences and computerized library and record retrieval are also available for those enrolled in the Program.
